The benefits of Sauna

The word "sauna" comes from the Finnish language, and it refers to a small room or building that is heated to a high temperature using a wood-burning stove or electric heater. The temperature inside a sauna typically ranges from 70 to 100 degrees Celsius (158 to 212 degrees Fahrenheit), and the humidity level is usually low.

Saunas were originally used for a variety of purposes, including bathing, healing, and spiritual cleansing. Today they are more widely used for relaxation and socializing.

In Finland, it is common for families and friends to gather together in a sauna for some well earned relaxation and a steamy chat.

How to enjoy the Sauna the Finnish way :

  • Take several rounds of heat, known as "löyly,"
  • Cool off in between rounds by jumping into a cold lake or rolling in the snow.
  • Beat your skin or a friends (gently) with birch twigs to improve circulation and provide a relaxing massage.

In addition to its cultural and social significance, sauna has also been shown to have a number of health benefits.

  • A regular sauna experience can reduced stress.
  • Improve your cardiovascular function.
  • Enhance your immune system function.
  • Help relieve pain from conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, and headaches.
  • Promote sweating and detoxification, which can help to remove toxins from the body.

Of course, It's important to note that sauna use may not be appropriate for everyone, so please consult with a healthcare provider before starting a sauna routine, especially if you have a medical condition or take medication. Additionally, it's important to stay hydrated and to not stay in the sauna for too long, as prolonged exposure to high temperatures can be dangerous.
